Station Number G9070142

Station Name: McArthur River at Baileys Grave
G9070142

This site is located on the McArthur River, 500m downstream from the Tablelands Highway McArthur river crossing  It was established in 1965, as part of a program to investigate the water resources in the Northern Territory. It has since been incorporated into the Departments’ Flood Warning Telemetry Network, providing near ‘real time’ river height and rainfall data for the downstream communities of McArthur River mine and Borroloola.

The instrumentation at the site measures river height recorded in metres to a local gauge datum (GD). This data is relayed back to the Departments’ Hydrographic unit in Darwin via telemetry on a regular basis.
The maximum recorded river height at this station was 9.187m, recorded in February, 2001.
