Station Number: G8170021

Station Name: Adelaide River at Arnhem Highway

g8170021

This site is located on the Adelaide River at the Arnhem Highway, approximately 58 km ESE of Darwin. It was established in 1955, as part of a program to investigate the water resources in the Northern Territory and to collect tidal information. It has since been incorporated into the Departments’ Flood Warning Telemetry Network, providing near ‘real time’ river height data.

The instrumentation at the site measures river height. River height is recorded in metres, to a local gauge datum (GD). This data is relayed back to the Departments’ Hydrographic unit in Darwin via telemetry. This data is automatically forwarded to the Bureau of Meteorology.

The maximum recorded river height at this station was 4.305 m, recorded on 6th of March, 2007.
