Station Name: Bennetts Creek Upstream of Jenkins Road

This site is located 70 m upstream of Jenkins Road on Bennetts Creek. It was established in January 2004 for hydrologic and water quality monitoring of the area designated for the development of the city of Weddel. The aim of the site is to monitor flow and water quality conditions prior to, during and after the cities development.

The instrumentation at the site measures rainfall, river height, turbidity and automatically takes water samples for physical analysis. The river height is recorded in metres, to a local gauge datum (GD). This data is relayed back to the Departments’ Hydrographic unit in Darwin via telemetry.

Bennetts Creek at this site does not flow in the dry season but continues to flow throughout the wet season in an average rainfall year. The largest event recorded at this site was in April 2006, reading 4.384 m on the gauge.
