Description of Telemetered Gauging StationStation Number: G81500231Station Name: Moil Urban Drain Opposite Airport Hotel This site is located in the suburb of Moil on Henry Wriggly Drive, the access road to Darwin Airport. It was established in October 1984 as part of a program to investigate urban runoff and drainage. It has since been incorporated into the Departments’ Telemetry Network, providing near ‘real time’ stream height data. The instrumentation at the site measures river height, rainfall and automatically takes water samples for physical analysis. The river height is recorded in metres, to a local gauge datum (GD). This data is relayed back to the Departments’ Hydrographic unit in Darwin via telemetry. The Moil Urban Drain at this site usually flows from November to July due to wet season runoff, but ceases to flow for the remainder of the year. The largest event recorded at this site occurred in January 1993, reaching 2.3 m on the gauge. |
