Description of Telemetered Gauging StationStation Number: G8140535Station Name: Katherine River at Ironwood Station This site is located on the Katherine River, approximately 1 km up stream of Knotts Crossing near Katherine. It was established in 2008 to improve the understanding of surface water to groundwater interaction and allow modelling to determine the likely impacts that extraction will have on water flow and quality conditions. The site also assists in the provision of flood forecasting data. The instrumentation at the site measures river height and rainfall. River height is recorded in metres, to a local gauge datum (GD). This data is relayed back to the Departments’ Hydrographic unit in Darwin via telemetry. This data is automatically forwarded to the Bureau of Meteorology. Historic events such as the 1998 flood peaked at approximately 21.3 meters (GD). Cease to flow at this site is measured at Knotts Crossing and is 1.200 m (GD) |
