Station Name: Flora River Upstream of Kathleen Falls

This site is located on the Flora River, approximately 83 km WSW of Katherine. It was established in 1957, as part of a program to investigate the water resources in the Northern Territory. It has since been incorporated into the Departments’ Flood Warning Telemetry Network, providing near ‘real time’ river height data.

The instrumentation at the site measures river height and rainfall. River height is recorded in metres, to a local gauge datum (GD). This data is relayed back to the Departments’ Hydrographic unit in Darwin via telemetry. This data is automatically forwarded to the Bureau of Meteorology.

The maximum recorded river height at this station was 13.499 m, recorded on 10th of March, 2008.
