Katherine Regional Advisory Committee

The Regional Weed Advisory Committee was established in July 2001, under the Weed Management Act 2001.

Any feedback to the Katherne Regional Weed Advisory Committee is welcome.

Functions of the Committee

  • to develop draft weed management plans in consultation with groups or organisations, and with individuals whose land may be affected by declared weed infestations
  • to advise the Minister on the progress of weed management in the region, district, catchment area or the specific purpose for which it was established.
  • to advise the Minister on other matters as may be requested from time to time.
  • to provide advice on the management of the herbicide subsidy scheme and/or weed management subsidy schemes to the Weed Management Branch should the Department be required to take legislative action.
  • provide support for departmental actions enforcing the legislation.
  • provide advice and recommendations in regard to weed declarations under the Weed Management Act 2001.
  • to provide a community based forum for strategic management of weeds in the Katherine region.

Committee membership

The Regional Weed Advisory Committee members consist of:

  • community groups
  • industry representatives
  • NT Government Agency staff with involvement in land management or weed management for various land tenures in the region.

These positions have been appointed by the Minister for Lands, Planning and Environment and valid for a three year term.
