  2. Provide an awareness of vegetation survey and mapping in the NT with an emphasis on the Arid Region
  3. Present national collaboration and vegetation initiatives in the NT
  4. Deliver the NT Guidelines and Field Methodology for Vegetation Survey and Mapping and introduce the NVIS Classification System

The Seminar Comprised Six Themes:

Field Workshop

A Vegetation Field Workshop was held outside Alice Springs on Friday 14th September with approximately 30 Ecologists in attendance. The Workshop was in conjunction with the Seminar. Catherine Nano from Biodiversity Conservation South and Donna Lewis from the Land and Vegetation Unit coordinated the Workshop.

The primary purpose of the Workshop was to:

  • Outline, demonstrate and discuss general vegetation site sampling procedures.
  • Introduce and discuss the implementation and benefits of the National Information System (NVIS) Classification System in the arid region
  • Encourage the future adoption of NVIS for classifying and describing vegetation in the NT

A Vegetation Field Workbook (pdf 628Kb) containing the conents of the Workshop is available.
