Water Quality Monitoring in Rapid Creek
The Aquatic Health Unit undertakes water quality monitoring at 3 sites (jpg 130Kb) in the freshwater reaches of Rapid Creek. Water samples are collected for analysis of nutrients, heavy metals, chlorophyll and chemistry. Field readings are also taken using a water quality meter to measure temperature, pH, electrical conductivity, dissolved oxygen and turbidity.
Annual sampling provides general information on long-term trends in water quality, although it is limited in its use for detecting specific pollution events. Water quality results for Rapid Creek can be viewed here, in a report on monitoring aquatic ecosystems in Rapid Creek.
The Rapid Creek Report Card 2009, is part of a series of report cards on the Darwin Harbour region, and can be viewed here.
