Coastcare Facilitation Project
NRM awareness and associated capacity building have been an integral part of NT Coastcare since 1999 and it is now programmed throughout schools, indigenous Land Councils, community land managers and volunteer groups.
Coastcare develops a fundamental environmental awareness in the younger target group and increases awareness through knowledge within ranger, volunteer and Indigenous land management groups as well as the general public.
It enhances the ability of stakeholders to effectively conduct coastal land management by programming capacity building activities that increase knowledge, develop physical skills and expand understanding of environmental needs and issues.
Indigenous Coastal Management Initiative
This project increases the capacity of Indigenous stakeholders to manage their marine and coastal areas in a culturally appropriate manner that incorporates the best current environmental practice. During 2006 and 2007 the Coastcare facilitator will be visiting remote and regional areas to assist in the improved understanding of issues that affect our coast today.
