Winners Accounced at Northern Territory's Landcare Awards 2005
The winners of the eight categories of the 2005 Northern Territory Landcare Awards were announced in Katherine at a gala presentation on Saturday 3rd September 2005.
"Northern Territory should be incredibly proud of its landcare achievers," said Landcare Australia Chief Executive Brian Scarsbrick.
"The hard work and dedication of all of the winners and finalists is truly inspirational," he said.
"Australia 's land and water resources are in serious trouble. We are losing a piece of land to salinity every day due to poor management practices. Over 20 billion trees have disappeared since 1788. 70% of Australia 's native vegetation has gone.
"The whole point of the National Landcare Awards is to salute amazing people who perform extraordinary acts to help our environment. Congratulations to all our winners. The future is in good hands - and Landcare really is making a huge contribution which is why we say Everyone, Everywhere, Landcare."
