Landcare logoLandcare is a community based approach to the conservation of our natural resources, with its roots in the mid eighties in Victoria with the development of a number of small Farm Tree groups. It has since evolved into a nationwide partnership between the community, industry and government to promote sustainable management of land, water and living natural resources for the benefit of the whole community.

Coastcare logoCoastcare is a community based approach to the protection and management of our coastal margins. Coastcare is a partnership program established by the Commonwealth, State/Territory and Local Governments to encourage improved management along the coast. Commonwealth support is from the Natural Heritage Trust for the environment. One of Coastcare’s main aims is to support groups and individuals who want to become actively involved in protecting and managing coastal areas. Coastcare supports activities that enhance the committment, skills and knowledge of coastal and marine managers and aims to increase understanding and appreciation by coastal communities, including indigenous communities, of the role of coastal and marine biodiversity.

Landcare and Coastcare encourages land owners and the community to take responsibility for local problems as a group and join in addressing these issues on a catchment or regional basis. Landcare and Coastcare groups tackle a range of environmental problems to help repair, protect and conserve our natural enviornment. Natural resource management issues such as weed control, fire management, habitat restoration, marine debris, feral animal control and dune and soil erosion control are just some of the examples of typical activities many dedicated Territory community groups undertake on a regular basis.
