Courses
The Bushfires NT has presented the Wildfire Fighting Operations level 1 course throughout the Territory since late 1994 and in that time over 2200 people have taken advantage of this training in wildfire prevention and control.
This course is a must for all rural landholders as it provides you with useful basic knowledge of bushfires and land management. It assumes no previous knowledge of bushfires. It consists of a balance of theory and practical work in eight subjects: Wildfire Behaviour and Suppression, Radio Communication, Personal Safety, Pumps and Water, Driving, Hand Tools and Bushfires Organisation. This course will also include Fire Extinguishers and HAZMAT identification with the Northern Territory Police Fire & Rescue Service. There will be something of interest for everyone. All of the training is competency based and will be assessed to the National Standard for bushfire fighters.
Assessment or testing will be done after each module and will take the form of oral responses, short written answers, practical demonstration or a combination. Writing or spelling skills are not an issue – this is adult learning not a return to school.
