Insecta (Insects)

The entomology collection of the MAGNT contains about 90,000 pinned insects; about 2,000 vials of alcohol specimens; and a small number of microscope slides.

The collection is primarily from the Northern Territory fauna, but some extralimital specimens are also held for research, comparison, quarantine and other purposes.

The groups which are best represented are the Heteroptera (true bugs), Trichoptera (caddisflies), Tiphiidae (flower wasps), Coleoptera (beetles) and Acrididae (grasshoppers), although only the first three are well sorted and identified.
