Museums and Art Galleries Board of the NT
The Museums and Art Galleries Board of the Northern Territory is established pursuant to Section 9 of the Museums and Art Galleries Act 1999 (NT). Members are appointed by the Minister for Arts & Museums. The Board’s primary responsibility is to hold the cultural and scientific collections of a range of museums and art galleries in Darwin and Alice Springs on trust for the Northern Territory. These include: the Museum & Art Gallery of the NT (MAGNT), Fannie Bay Gaol, the Australian Pearling Exhibition and Lyons Cottage (in Darwin) and Museums Central Australia, Connellan Hangar and the Kookaburra Memorial (in Alice Springs).
The Board also provides advice to the Minister in relation to the performance or exercise by the Minister of his/her functions or powers. The Board promotes community involvement in museums and art galleries in the Northern Territory and exercises any other functions conferred on it by the Minister.
