Statement of Heritage Value
The Borroloola Police Station is the oldest surviving example of an "outpost police station" in the Northern Territory. The original building was one of the first of five, erected in Borroloola prior to the the turn of century. It is the only one remaining.

The building demonstrates early construction methods and workmanship. The subsequent additions to the verandah demonstrate the progressive adaptability to a tropical climate and the move from a solely male occupied building to one which catered for female occupancy. Although the verandah has undergone various alterations during its history and glazed windows are now part of the building, the original design and basic structure has remained intact. It is a good example of early tropical construction and workmanship using lightweight timber frame construction and the utilisation of verandahs.
