Statement of Heritage Value

The early buildings at Araluen are important for their historical and social associations with E.J. Connellan, pioneer aviator and pastoralist. Constructed between 1948-1955 the Araluen Homestead, former Gardener's Residence, former Staff flats and Old Office/Residence, stand as testimony to the grand visions of Connellan.

The buildings are also associated with the growth of Alice Springs during WWII and later years that saw the increasing provision of services in the region. Public concern for the future of these buildings during the mid-late 1970s ensured their retention as part of the Araluen Centre Complex.
