Information Act 2002
The Northern Territory Information Act 2002 came into operation on 1 July 2003. It combines Freedom of Information (FOI), privacy and records management legislation.
Aims
The main aims of the Act are:
- Provide for public access to information held by the public sector
- Protect the privacy of personal information held by public sector organisations by applying Information Privacy Principles (IPP's)
- Provide for the correction of your personal information
- Encourage responsible collection and handling of public sector information
- Promote appropriate records and archives management.
