Building Better Community Education Resources

This project is about developing a targeted community education program focussing on identified hotspots and localities where issues such as littering or high contamination levels and poor participation rates in the kerbside recycling program are of major concern.  It will involve:

  • Informing the public about environmental issues associated with resource recovery and efficiency issues, appropriate disposal behaviour in the home and costs of contamination in kerbside collection systems
  • Providing information on recycling services available in the Territory and the processes involved in resource recovery; and
  • Promoting the positive outcomes achieved in communities within the Territory.

The project will seek to build strong linkages between existing familiar programs, such as:

  • Keep Australia Beautiful Council NT’s ‘Territory Tidy Towns’
  • NT Sustainable Schools Program: and
  • Re-thinking Waste-in-Schools Challenge

It will also seek to integrate with other initiatives including the Packaging Stewardship Forum/Keep Australia Beautiful Council NT’s ‘Pick of the Litter Project’ and other relevant EnvironmeNT Grant projects.
