Landfill
The Waste Management and Pollution Control Act requires that a landfill servicing the waste disposal requirements of more than 1000 people must not be operated without a licence. The following are a list of licenced landfill operations:

Licence is not required to operate a landfill that serves the equivalent of permanent population of less than 1000 persons and only accepts domestic waste, however the siting, design and operations of these facilities should be in accordance with the principles set out in Guidelines for the Siting, Design and Management of Solid Waste Disposal Sites in the Northern Territory (pdf 484Kb).
