Site Contamination Audit Results
Under section 53 of the Waste Management and Pollution Control Act the Chief Executive Officer may include in the register kept under section 9 the results of an environmental audit performed under sections 48 or 49 of the Act.
Audits consist of a Statement of Environmental Audit and an Environmental Audit Report.
- The Statement of Environmental Audit is the professional opinion of an independent, accredited Auditor experienced in assessing land contamination as to the fitness of a site, in terms of risk to human health or the environment, for present or proposed uses.
- The Auditor’s opinion is based on the findings of a comprehensive Environmental Audit Report on his/her review.
- The Environmental Audit Report mainly covers the acceptability of work that has been carried out by other parties to: determine whether the site is contaminated (sampling etc); and, where the site has been determined to be unfit for present or proposed uses, make it fit for those uses. Information considered in the review is presented in the Report’s appendices.
- The Statement of Environmental Audit and the Environmental Audit Report for a site are complementary and should be considered together to gain a full appreciation of the Auditor’s decisions regarding the status of the site.
The information below contains links to the results of audits that have been undertaken to determine:
- whether the land is contaminated; or
- where the land was known to be contaminated, whether that contamination presents a risk to human health or the environment under either the present use or a proposed use; or
- where land is known to be contaminated and posing a risk to human health or the environment has been rehabilitated, whether the land is now fit for either the present use or a proposed use:
Please note: Statements of Environmental Audit are available in electronic form for each listed site; however, the Environmental Audit Reports for some sites are not currently available in this format, either in whole or in part. In any case, copies of the Statements and Reports for all listed sites may be viewed at the Office of Environment and Heritage during normal office hours. The key accompanying the table below identifies which documents are available for viewing here.
