Companies throughout Australia, and across the world, are working to become more environmentally sustainable because they realise that what is good for the environment can also be good for business. Taking action to embrace environmental sustainability as an integral part of industry and business can have a positive impact on the financial performance of companies.

The Greenhouse Challenge Plus programme is an Australian Government programme that aims to encourage and assist business to cut costs, boost productivity and build competitive advantage through effectively managing their utilities and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Codes of practice for various industries including: the Automotive Repairs Industry; Spray Painting and Surface Coating Industries; Service Station Operations; NT Hotels Industry; and the NT Mango Industry have been developed by the Northern Territory Chamber of Commerce.
The Energy Efficiency Opportunities program is an initiative of the Australian Government and encourages large energy-using businesses to improve their energy efficiency by requiring businesses to identify, evaluate and report publicly on cost effective energy savings opportunities.
