Fire management

Research currently under way suggests that fire management practices that result in reduced amounts of late dry season bush fires create a significant reduction in the net greenhouse gas emissions from bushfires. See also: Summary of research on fire and landscapes (Tropical Savannas Cooperative Research Centre), and the Bushfires NT website.

Land clearing and revegetation

The Greenhouse cost of land cover change, that is land clearing and any revegetation, in a variety of tropical situations is currently being analysed.
The Australian Greenhouse office has recently produced information on planning forest sink projects.

Renewable energy

Consider the benefits of using renewable rather than diesel generated energy. The Department of Primary Industries, Fisheries and Mines manages the Renewable Energy Rebate Program in the Territory. The Program is aimed at providing cash rebates for installation of Remote Area Power Supply Systems incorporating renewable energy.
