Energy and Greenhouse Management for Territory Manufacturers

The Energy and Greenhouse Management Information Sheet for Territory Manufacturers provides a list of measures that manufacturers can take to better manage their energy use and thus reduce costs as well as greenhouse gas emissions. Most businesses can reduce energy consumption by 20% through equipment maintenance and upgrades, smarter building systems and materials, and energy efficient technology. This is usually achieved using tried and tested technologies that are widely available from a range of suppliers.

Join the Greenhouse Challenge Plus

The Greenhouse Challenge Plus is a joint voluntary initiative between the Australian Government and industry. Participating organisations sign agreements with the Commonwealth Government which provides a framework for undertaking and reporting on actions to abate emissions. By joining the Greenhouse Challenge Plus your business can cut costs, boost productivity, build competitive advantage and contribute to reducing the threat of global warming. Northern Territory businesses should contact the Northern Territory Chamber of Commerce for more information.

Offset your emissions and use the “Greenhouse Friendly” logo

The Commonwealth Government is providing industry and business with an opportunity to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through a new certification program - Greenhouse Friendly. The program enables consumers to buy products and services whose greenhouse gas emissions, associated with their manufacture, use, transport and disposal are offset through verified abatement projects. Certification is open to all companies that sell products or deliver services in Australia.

Synthetic greenhouse gases

The Commonwealth Government is committed to working with industry to develop environmental management strategies for synthetic greenhouse gases, being hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons and sulphur hexafluoride (HFCs, PFCs and SF6). These gases are particularly potent greenhouse gases and are either used in a number of industrial applications or are emitted as a by-product of industrial activity.
