State and Territory Greenhouse Gas Emissions - an Overview
This report provides an overview of the Northern Territory greenhouse gas emissions inventory for the year 2004. It has been published by the Australian Greenhouse Office, with input from the National Greenhouse Inventory Committee. The full 2004 Northern Territory Inventory is also available from here.
NT Environmental Impact Assessment Guide - Greenhouse Gas Emissions (pdf 63Kb)
The Northern Territory government’s objective for managing greenhouse gas emissions from new and expanding operations is to minimise emissions to a level that is as low as practicable.
This Guide aims to assist proponents in providing the information needed by the Office of Environment and Heritage to assess the impact of greenhouse gas emissions from proposed projects during assessment under the Northern Territory Environmental Assessment Act 1994.
Cost-Benefit Analysis of Mary River Wetlands Salinity Mitigation
This study was undertaken on behalf of the Northern Territory Government, in partnership with the Australian Greenhouse Office. The coastal floodplains of the Mary River have been affected by salt water intrusion since the 1940s. The study analyses the costs and benefits of options to reduce the impact of salt water intrusion in the Mary River region, and demonstrates a useful method for assessing the economic viability of options to adapt to the impacts of climate change such as sea-level rise.
An Overview of the Mary River study (pdf 3.5Mb) is provided here. The full report is available on the Australian Greenhouse Office website.
Sustainable Housing in Central Australia
The publication Sustainable Housing in Central Australia – a guide to efficient use of energy and water (pdf 795Kb) has been prepared by the Centre for Sustainable Arid Towns for the Department of Natural Resources Environment and the Arts.
The booklet has been specifically targeted at housing in the desert region. It promotes sustainable housing design and encourages and advises on efficient household energy and water use. By promoting energy efficiency in the residential sector, the booklet also aims to contribute to the management of greenhouse gas emissions in the Northern Territory.
Hardcopies of the booklet are available from the Environment Protection Agency Program office at Darwin Plaza, the NRETA Office at Alice Springs Plaza, and the Centre for Sustainable Arid Towns and Desert Knowledge Australia in Alice Springs.
Fact sheet
Climate Change and Sustainable Housing in the Northern Territory (pdf 187Kb)
This fact sheet provides an introduction to the causes and potential impacts of climate change in the Northern Territory. It also contains useful tips on how we can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change through sustainable housing design and living.
Climate Change in the Northern Territory
The report, Climate Change in the Northern Territory (pdf 2.5Mb) has been prepared by the CSIRO for the Department of Natural Resources, Environment and the Arts.
The report includes predicted changes in temperature, rainfall, moisture balance, hot spells, cyclones and storm surge. It will be used as the basis of discussions with relevant sectors of the community to assess the risks of climate change impacts and develop plans for adaptation.
NT Greenhouse Policy Framework 2002
In April 2002, the Northern Territory Government endorsed an NT Greenhouse Policy Framework (pdf 11Kb). This document underpins the 2006 NT Strategy for Greenhouse Action.
Climate change under enhanced greenhouse conditions in Northern Australia - Executive summary of the final report 1994/1997
A report prepared by the Climate Impact Group of the CSIRO Division of Atmospheric Research (funded by the Northern Territory, Queensland and West Australian Governments).
