Greenhouse and Climate Change
Welcome to Natural Resources, Environment and the Arts (NRETA) Greenhouse and Climate Change site.
In November 2007 the Chief Minister announced creation of a new portfolio of Climate Change under his responsibility. For the latest activity across the NT Government and in NT businesses and the community on climate change, see the Department of Chief Minister Climate Change site.
In February 2008, the Chief Minister announced that a new Climate Change Policy for the NT would be developed by early 2009. Further information on the NT Climate Change Policy, and how you can provide input, is available here.
NRETA remains engaged in climate change matters through contributing its in-house expertise to the new NT Climate Change Policy development process and national policy processes in a range of areas including fire, vegetation management and climate change impacts and adaptation for tropical northern Australia. NRETA will also be working with other Departments to implement the $5 million package of incentives announced in the NT Budget 2008 to encourage businesses and households to reduce their energy use. NRETA is also working on a range of policies and programs to reduce its carbon footprint.
NRETA continues to support community initiatives through support for the COOLmob programs in Darwin and Alice Springs, and the annual EnvironmeNT grants program.
This site provides information regarding greenhouse and climate change issues relevant to NRETA’s work. For broader NT Climate Change information please see the Department of Chief Minister Climate Change site.
