Overview

EnvironmeNT Grants are available annually to individuals, community groups, local government and industry associations for environmental projects and educational activities in the Territory.

In 2009/2010 a new category is available to those applicants wishing to establish invasive species (weeds/feral animal) management programs. This may involve actively managing invasive species at sites of conservation significance, increasing community awareness of issues relating to invasive species, developing new management techniques and preventing the spread of invasive species in the Northern Territory.

There are also four other existing categories from previous years. These categories focus on assisting the NT Community to develop better awareness and understanding of recent developments in environmental management, help the community become wiser at efficiently using our non-renewable resources, re-using waste products and reducing our greenhouse gas emissions. Applicants are also encouraged through their projects to promote environmental sustainability and conservation of native wildlife.

The grant scheme has three components:

Individual Project Grants

To provide support for individual projects put forward by the community that seeks to:

  • Promote sustainable resource management
  • Increase environmental awareness
  • Improve environmental management practices
  • Mitigate environmental impacts
  • Focus on wildlife conservation issues

School Project Grants

Available to schools, for environmental activities and projects within schools, throughout the Territory.

Operational Grants

To provide operational support for non-government environment organisations.
