About Us
The Environment, Heritage and the Arts (EHA) Division is responsible for the implementation of the environmental assessment process in the Northern Territory. The EHA Division reviews all applications received under the Environmental Assessment Act are properly considered to determine whether a development has the potential for significant environmental impact. The EHA Division subsequently advises the Minister for Natural Resources, Environment and Heritage on the environmental signifance of a development. The Minister makes a determination on whether a proposal is required to be assessed, either at the level of a Public Environmental Report or an Environmental Impact Statement.
The Environmental Assessment Group of the EHA Division assists and advises the Minister on environmental impact assessment matters. Any queries regarding a development, or the status of an environmental impact assessment can be directed to this group. Environmental impact assessment matters are also placed on the web. You can find out about these by clicking on what’s new or the Environmental Impact Assessment Register.
Further information on the NT environmental assessment process can be found by clicking on the Guide to the EIA Process in the NT. This provides a comprehensive review of the process and provides guidance to proponents regarding their obligations under the process.
