Funding and Initiatives

EURISTA Skills Development Workshop

Screen Tasmania in association with Screen Australia are partnering with Eurista Development to deliver a week long script development skills residential workshop in Freycinet, Tasmania in July 2009. In response to current industry needs the workshop has been designed with a specific focus on developing the skills of Story Developers.

EURISTA Development Skills Workshop is designed and led by international story development consultant Stephen Cleary, supported by international script consultant/tutors, Simon van der Borgh, Paddy Caneen and Peter Speyer. For the first time there will also be an Australian script consultant/tutor on the team, Mira Robertson.

Up to seven project teams and 14 Developers from around Australia will participate in an accelerated development process.

The Northern Territory Film Office (NTFO) will support one creative team and one developer to participate in the workshop.

It is expected teams and developers will have varied experience levels and be at different stages of development. Teams will be assigned developers at an appropriate level of experience and skill for their stage of development.

The NTFO will cover all workshop costs for Territory teams and developers including accommodation and travel from the Northern Territory to Tasmania.

Projects must be intended for production in the Northern Territory.

IGNITE

IGNITE is an accelerated feature film development initiative that will take place over six months in 2009. IGNITE mixes high intensity residential workshops with distance learning and online consultation. The result will be well developed stories and energised creative teams ready to push feature projects on with an increased chance of success.

IGNITE 2009 is a partnership between the Northern Territory Film Office (NTFO) and acclaimed script development company Eurista Development.

IGNITE is being designed and led by international story development consultant Stephen Cleary, supported by international script consultant Simon van der Borgh.

The NTFO will support a maximum of four individuals/teams to participate in IGNITE. A team may be comprised of a writer, producer and director. Please note the NTFO only requires the writer to be Territory based to be eligible for IGNITE. Other team members, including the producer/director engaged by the writer can be based interstate.

The NTFO is offering each team a full scholarship to attend IGNITE which will cover all costs including airfares, accommodation, meals, transfers and draft funding. The total value of each IGNITE place is in excess of $15 000 with $10 000 being set aside for script development.

The Bob Plasto Screen Fellowship

The Bob Plasto Screen Fellowship aims to support the professional development of screen practitioners with a commitment to achieving excellence and innovation in screen practice.

The successful Fellow will aim to extend their screen practice to a new level, through exploring innovative practices, processes or methods, and will contribute back to screen practice in the Northern Territory.

The Fellowship, of up to $20 000 may be applied to formal or informal study, including to institution based study, at a national or international institution, or for attachment to a recognised production house or individual. Applicants can submit proposals that are relevent to their current projects, or address unique individual professional development interests.

The objective of the Fellowship is to recognise the outstanding achievements of the successful Fellow and to give them the opportunity to extend their professional practice.

Screen Grants Program

The Northern Territory Film Office (NTFO) Screen Grants Program aims to support and develop the screen industry in the Northern Territory by supporting the production of local content, attracting production to the Northern Territory, supporting Territorians to travel to conferences, markets and events, and supporting activities and events that provide a screen experience, and encourage the promotion of the screen industry to the Northern Territory public.

Travel Funding

Funding is available to support Northern Territory screen practitioners with travel costs for professional and business development - to attend Australian and international markets, conferences festivals, screenings, seminars and workshops.

Production/Post Production Funding

Production/post production funding is available for feature film, drama series, telemovies, documentaries, animation and digital media that have secured the majority of finance and have marketplace commitment.

Industry/Screen Culture Funding

Funding is available for events and activities that provide a screen experience, and encourage promotion of the screen industry to the Northern Territory public.

Funding is available to provide opportunities for skills training, professional development and network buildling for the local screen industry.
