My Brother Vinnie Screening on SBS - Wednesday 11th July 8:30 pm

My Brother Vinnie directed by Territorian Steven McGregor and written by former Alice Springs resident Aaron Pedersen; tells the story of Aaron and his brother Vinnie. The documentary will have its TV début on SBS at 8:30pm, Wednesday 11th of July.

Aaron and Vinnie are two brothers who have grown up as each others’ shadow. From a very young age Vinnie gave his older brother Aaron duty of care. Aaron has established a successful a career as an actor in the entertainment industry, all the while being responsible for the care of Vinnie, who has mild intellectual disabilities and cerebral palsy.

The journey hasn’t been easy but the brothers have finally become independent, with Vinnie finding a home and full-time career in Melbourne. With the support provided by the career they affectionately call Mum Frances, Aaron has been able to step away from the responsibility of being Vinnie’s main care giver.

My Brother Vinnie is an observational documentary, which intimately explores a relationship full of humour and charm. The characters will touch the audience with their love, wit and honesty.

My Brother Vinnie has won a number of awards including;

  • Melbourne International Film Festival Best Documentary Award 2006
  • Flickerfest International Film Festival Best Documentary Award 2007
  • St. Kilda Film Festival Audience Award 2007
  • St. Kilda Film Festival Best Documentary Award 2007

The NTFO would like to congratulate Steven and Aaron on producing a fantastic Australian Documentary series that looks at a subject not often discussed, what is it like to live with someone with a disability.
