Public Art: Major Works
The Public Art categories Small and Medium Works and Major Works support the creation of artistic work in public places.
Funding requests can include project expenses, development expenses, artists’ fees and/or materials.
Small and Medium Works may be incorporated in new building or civil projects; as additional to existing environments; as additional to existing public art collections/ precincts. Works may include temporary, performance and ephemeral work.
Major Works emphasise public artworks specifically commissioned to complement new or developing building or other civil projects.
Eligibility
- Small and Medium Works: Individuals, groups, commissioning agencies, organisations, councils, architects, developers and/or building owners can apply (agreement with the site owner/s must be supplied as part of the project brief).
- Major Works: Commissioning agencies, organisations, councils, architects, developers and/or building owners only (agreements with participating artist/s must be supplied as part of the project brief). Individuals are not eligible.
Objectives
- contribution to the unique identity of the Northern Territory;
- increased awareness of public art; and
- provision of showcasing opportunities for Territory artists.
Assessment Criteria
- Artistic merit.
- Calibre of skills and experience of the artist/arts workers.
- Calibre of skills and experience of the commissioning agency/developers.
- Relevance of the work in relation to its site, place and community
Clear project brief. See pages 25 and 26 of the Guidelines. - Evidence of community support and benefit.
- Accurately costed and viable budget.
- Appropriate longevity of the work in regards to site/project.
- Accessibility for the public including disability access.
Projects involving Indigenous artists, content or community involvement, must include evidence of appropriate consultation, agreement or support.
Funding Limit: Small and Medium Works up to $30,000, Major Works up to $150,000
Closing Dates: 15 March (For this round only, projects may commence during the assessment period upon consultation with a Regional Arts Broker. However as funding is competitive no applicant should count on receiving funds as a result of their application when commencing a project before the announcement date)
