The Graduate Traineeship gives university graduates the opportunity to begin their career with NRETA in an environment that continues their professional training in a supervised workplace. To be eligible for the GDP you must successfully complete (or be eligible to graduate) a degree program at a recognised university. A successful applicant will be offered a placement on the 2-year Graduate Development Program combining formal and on-the-job training. During this time, the graduate will complete a minimum of four work projects and will be rotated throughout the department to broaden their skills and experience. Upon commencement, the graduate is permanently appointed to the Northern Territory Public Sector (NTPS).
Vacation Employment offers students who are enrolled in a degree program the opportunity to gain practical experience on-the-job. Vacation employment is paid and is usually offered during the major school breaks. Advertising for these positions usually occurs towards the end of the year around September/October.
The New Apprenticeship Program provides Territorians the opportunity to gain a qualification through structured employment and training with NRETA. The length of the program is dependent on the discipline that the apprentice will undertake and could range from 12 months to 3 years. Generally, Certificate III level qualifications in a wide range of disciplines are offered. Apprentices will be rotated throughout NRETA to broaden their experience and skills within the Department whilst being supervised, supported and assisted to meet the requirements of their course competencies. The New Apprenticeship Program is usually advertised through high schools and newspapers towards the end of the year.
For further information on any of these programs, please contact Shael Martin, NRETA Early Careers Coordinator on 8999 4542.
