Careers at NRETAS
Graduate Development Program
The Graduate Development Program is the best practice recruitment strategy to develop new generations of employees whose ideas, ambition and leadership potential will help shape the future of the Northern Territory Public Sector (NTPS).
Graduates from diverse disciplines and backgrounds are encouraged into the program to help meet the current needs of the NTPS.
Graduates have the opportunity to begin their career with the NTPS in an environment that continues their professional training within a supervised workplace. NRETAS identifies disciplines needed in its future workforce and offers employment to Graduates as part of its strategic succession management. Thus participants in the program fill an important role in the development of the Department.
To date Graduate Traineeships in NRETAS have been offered in the following disciplines;
- Environmental Science;
- Law;
- Human Resources;
- Business;
- Water Engineering; and
- Pollution Control.
The Graduate Development Program is a 1 or 2 year program with rotations to take place every 3 to 6 months to provide the Graduate with the opportunity to develop a broad range of skills and knowledge relevant to their discipline, agency and the NTPS.
The Graduate Development Program enables graduates to obtain employment in the public sector at appropriate and attractive remuneration levels and to participate in a program of professional development. The salary of a Graduate is dependent on the length of degree and relevant work experience undertaken, and can vary between $44,893 - $50,841 with possible six monthly incremental progressions based on performance and achievement of identified outcomes.
Applicants must meet strict eligibility criteria as follows:
- Must have Australian citizenship / permanent residency status; and
- Must be currently completing an undergraduate bachelor degree and be eligible to graduate by the end of the year, or have recently completed a bachelor degree,
The advertising and recruitment process commences in approximately September in order for Graduates to commence in approximately February.
