Chief Executive and Clerk of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly

A unique and exciting opportunity arises with the retirement of the Clerk of the Northern Territory’s unicameral
Legislative Assembly in mid 2013.

As Clerk, you will be the primary source of expert advice to the Speaker, Ministers and Members on all aspects
of parliamentary practice and procedure, and the operation of parliamentary committees. You will be responsible
for the accurate preparation and safe custody of parliamentary records and documents, and for the efficient
processing of legislation. The Clerk is also the Registrar of Members’ Interests and Secretary to the Standing
Orders and Privileges Committees.

As Chief Executive, you will provide strong leadership of the Department of the Legislative Assembly, as it
supports the operation of the Parliament, Members in their Parliament House and electorate offices, and
parliamentary committees. You will also be responsible for the safety and security of the Parliament House
precinct.

Extensive experience as a Table Officer in an Australian legislature and extensive knowledge of parliamentary
and government procedures and practice is essential for this role, as well as proven ability to advise and respond
on highly complex, sensitive and technical issues on the operation of all aspects of the Parliament. High levels of
judgement and discretion are absolutely critical.

You will have demonstrated executive level leadership skills, the ability to shape strategic direction and
communicate with influence, high level strategic, conceptual and analytical skills, high level negotiation skills and
the ability to build collaborative relationships with others, and a demonstrated record of achievement in areas
relevant to the position.

Tertiary qualifications relevant to the position would be an advantage.
