The Department of Lands and Plannings purpose is to shape the built environment to enable our communities to flourish.

To achieve this purpose we must help the community understand the opportunities, constraints, choices and consequences that face us as we meet the current and emerging needs for lands, transport systems and other infrastructure.

Consideration of natural hazards is fundamental to the delivery of a sustainable built environment and flourishing communities in the Northern Territory.
