Legislating to Better Protect Territory Home Owners

The Territory Government has released for comment a draft Bill to introduce residential building insurance (RBI) and an associated consumer package into the NT.

Planning Minister Gerry McCarthy said the package provides consumer protection comprising RBI in the event of a residential builder being unable to complete a home, regulation of progress payments, a mandatory dispute resolution process and consumer guarantees.

A copy of the draft Bill and an explanatory paper is available at www.nt.gov.au/rbi with the public exhibition period closing on 28 February 2011.

Development of Palmerston East Powering On

15 November 2010

Work is set to begin on a $3.1 million project to provide electricity to the new Palmerston East suburbs of Johnston and Zuccoli, Planning Minister Gerry McCarthy announced today.

Mr McCarthy said the electrical headworks would help deliver power to more than 1800 residential lots in the two new suburbs.

The Next Step Towards Weddell

Outcomes from this year’s Weddell Towards 2030 Conference and Design Forum will be presented to the public later this month, Planning Minister Gerry McCarthy announced today.

Mr McCarthy invited the public to register and attend the presentation of outcomes at the Holiday Inn Esplanade on 24 November to learn more about how the Territory Government is progressing ideas presented at September’s Weddell Conference and Design Forum.

“Work towards the design of Weddell - the Territory’s next city - is progressing well and we want the public involved throughout the process,” Mr McCarthy said.
