Darwin CBD Urban Planning Forum
02 April 2007
The Darwin CBD Urban Planning Forum is a joint initiative of the NT Government and Darwin City Council. Significant work has already been done by the NT Government and Council to understand the issues facing the CBD and to identify future directions. The next step is to develop an action plan for the future of Darwin’s CBD.
The forum will bring together stakeholders, experts, a cross section of residents and users of the CBD, planners, property developers and the general public to provide input that will assist in developing the action plan.
The key theme of this first Urban Planning Forum is:
How should our city function?
The forum and following community consultation events will deliver an action plan for Darwin that contains a set of specific actions around the design of buildings, streetscape and open spaces to help shape the future of Darwin’s CBD.
For more information about the Darwin CBD Urban Planning Forum and how you can be involved, visit the forum website: www.darwinplanningforum.nt.gov.au
Northern Territory Planning Scheme
01 February 2007
The new Northern Territory Planning Scheme commenced on Thursday 1 February 2007. The new Northern Territory Planning Scheme:
- rationalises, integrates and consolidates the existing planning controls, policies and guidelines into a single, coherent document;
- covers the whole Territory, except the town of Jabiru, where the Jabiru Town Plan 1981 will remain a specific planning scheme under the Planning Act;
- includes Territory wide and regional principles relating to Government’s expectations for the use and development of land; and
- includes a common suite of zones, land use definitions, control provisions and guidelines based on existing controls.
Prior to the introduction of the new NT Planning Scheme, the proposed Scheme was on exhibition in accordance with the requirements of the Planning Act. Submissions received in response to the exhibition of the proposed Scheme are summarised and assessed in a report titled Summary and Assessment of Submissions.
A copy of the Notice of Amendment and the Statement of Reasons for the decision are provided:

Aboriginal Land Permit System Upgrade
02 January 2007
The application process for the issuing of Permits to Enter and Remain on Aboriginal Land or Seas Adjoining Aboriginal Land has recently been upgraded with a new permit card printing system and a new application form. As a result, old application forms can no longer be accepted after the cut off date of 1 January 2007.
The new system no longer requires applicants to sign and submit a blank permit card with their application form as the new cards have a signature panel on the back which is to be signed on receipt of permit.
Please visit the Aboriginal Land website for further detailed information on Aboriginal Land permits.
