Alice Springs
Larapinta
The second phase of the Larapinta land release – Ridges Estate – has been completed to provide seniors’ public housing. The development includes 38 single dwelling lots and one large multiple dwelling lot.
The Northern Territory Government has bought back six single dwelling lots as part of this stage for release as affordable housing to first home buyers under the HomeStart Scheme.
Private housing construction has also begun with Building Permits in place for 18 houses; 17 are under construction.
This development follows the first phase of the Larapinta land release -Stirling Heights - where 40 residential lots were released in February 2006.
Mt Johns Valley
In Mt Johns Valley land is being released for residential development. It will extend over about 14 hectares facing Stephens Road. Headworks including power, water and sewer infrastructure are in place.
Lhere Artepe Enterprises (LAE) will develop Stage One which will provide up to 90 dwellings on about seven hectares of land.
A Development Permit has been issued for 23 single dwellings, four large multiple dwelling blocks and land for up to 50 units.
The detailed design of the subdivision is being undertaken and work will begin shortly. Subsequent to the completion of this project, a second stage of seven hectares will be released for development.
A development of about 500 to 600 lots is possible in Mt Johns Valley.
Kilgariff
The Territory Government is currently planning for Kilgariff, the next suburban development in Alice Springs.
This development presents a unique opportunity to plan living spaces for the future with good urban design, public transport links, environmentally sustainable homes and buildings and community spaces that work for people.
The new suburb will be approximately 9 km from the town centre and 4.5 km to the airport. Kilgariff has 180 hectares of developable land and will initially deliver approximately 150 dwellings over the nect few years, with ultimate housing capacity for up to 3000 people.
Katherine
Crown land has recently been auctioned for development providing approximately 39 lots for residential development and a commercial site. The residential lots are a mix of single dwellings with some medium density sites. The future residential development in Katherine East will be assessed.
Fifteen residential lots have been identified for release in Fitzer Road and Lawler Court, Town of Timber Creek; it is intended the land will go to auction in June 2010.
Investigation of a Truck City site for residential/ commercial development on five hectares of land adjacent to the weighbridge on the Stuart Highway is being undertaken. It will be suggested - subject to ministerial consent and the resolution of native title - that this site be put to auction.
The Department of Lands and Planning is progressing with action to release four residential Lots in Gunn Street and three rural residential Lots in Carew Road Town of Mataranka.
Tennant Creek
The Territory Government has lodged a development application with the Development Consent Authority to deliver more houses and units in Tennant Creek.
The application is to develop 46 single dwelling and eight medium density blocks on the corner of Peko Road and Hilda Street.
As part of the Territory Government’s land release strategy, 15 per cent of the residential development will be set aside for public or affordable housing.
Lots may be sold in August this year if the Territory Government’s application is approved.
