Building Palmerston for the Future
The Northern Territory Government has announced comprehensive plans to build four new suburbs in Palmerston, which will include major infrastructure and services to meet Palmerston's fast growing population.
Work has commenced on the first two suburbs of Palmerston East, Bellamack and Johnston, that will provide lots for sale in 2009.
Palmerston is already a great place to live, work and raise a family. These new developments will make it even better, with more services and recreation options available to families.
Almost 4,000 new lots
The four new suburbs of Bellamack, Johnston, Mitchell and Zuccoli will provide 3,700 new residential lots for housing - increasing Palmerston's population by around 15,000 people.
The Northern Territory Government is fast tracking $50 million to develop the power, water and utilities infrastructure for these exciting new suburbs - great news for Territorians wanting to build their own new home.
There will also be great opportunities for first home buyers and low to middle income earners to enter the housing market with 15% of the new suburbs set aside for affordable and social housing.
Planning for these suburbs includes residential buffer zones and a trial of new innovative midgie barriers to reduce the impact of seasonal midges.
Bellamack
Bellamack, the first of the four new suburbs, will provide 670 new housing lots. Site works have commenced on the first stage that will provide 234 lots. A total of 96 lots were sold off the plan in the first release in July 2009 and the second release in September 2009.
Urban Pacific and Brierty, the subdivision developers, are registering expressions of interest for people interested in purchasing lots.
Under the Territory Government’s affordable housing strategy, 15% of residential lots in Johnston will be set aside for affordable and public housing. For more information on Bellamack visit the Department of Planning and Infrastructure website.
Johnston
Headworks for the new suburb of Johnston have commenced. The first stage of Johnston will provide 205 residential and commercial lots, with the first lots expected to be released for sale off the plan from November 2009.
Under the Territory Government’s affordable housing strategy, 15% of residential lots in Johnston will be set aside for affordable and public housing.
Zuccoli
Zuccoli will produce up to 1750 lots of new residential housing and will become one of the biggest suburbs in Palmerston. The first lots are expected to go on sale in 2010.
Mitchell
Mitchell will be the final of the four new suburbs to be developed, producing around 400 lots. It is likely to be available in 2012.
Mitchell Creek will be protected as part of the development of the new suburbs.
