Building Palmerston for the Future
The Territory Government has announced comprehensive plans to build four new suburbs in Palmerston, which will include major infrastructure and services to meet Palmerston's fast growing population.
Work continues on the first two suburbs of Palmerston East- Bellamack and Johnston, At Bellamack, 217 residential lots of land were sold in 2009.
Palmerston is already a great place to live, work and raise a family. These new developments will make it even better, with more services and recreation options available to families.
Over 2800 new lots
The four new suburbs of Bellamack, Johnston, Mitchell and Zuccoli will provide about 2,819 new residential lots for housing - increasing Palmerston's population by around 15,000 people.
The Territory Government is fast tracking $50 million to develop the power, water and utilities infrastructure for these exciting new suburbs - great news for Territorians wanting to build their own new home.
There will also be great opportunities for first home buyers and low to middle income earners to enter the housing market with 15 per cent of the new suburbs set aside for affordable and social housing.
Planning for these suburbs includes residential buffer zones and a trial of new innovative midgie barriers to reduce the impact of seasonal midges..
Bellamack
Two hundred and seventeen residential lots of land were sold in Bellamack in 2009. Bellamack Pty Ltd will continue to release residential lots in Bellamack over the next two years, with about 677 lots in total expected to be released by 2012.
onstruction of dwellings will begin in 2010 and continue throughout the next three to four years. For more information on Bellamack visit the Department of Lands and Planning website.
Johnston
Land at Johnston is currently being sold by the developers and includes19 single dwelling lots to be sold for affordable housing for no more than $140 000, including GST. Johnson will deliver a total of about 492 lots.
The construction of $10 million of headworks, including new roads, power, water and sewerage, is advanced.
Under the Territory Government’s affordable housing strategy, 15 per cent of residential lots in Johnston will be set aside for affordable and public housing.
Zuccoli
Zuccoli will produce up to 1350 lots of new residential housing and will become one of the biggest suburbs in Palmerston. It is estimated that about 400 lots will be available in Stage One.
Mitchell
Mitchell will be the final of the four new suburbs to be developed, producing around 300 lots. The lots will be available in 2012.
Mitchell Creek will be protected as part of the development of the new suburbs.
