Statutory Survey Services
This Unit is responsible for ensuring that survey plans of land subdivisions comply with statutory requirements to maintain the integrity of the land title system.
The Unit:
- Allocates parcel, plan and field book numbers for new subdivisions. Requests for numbers are received from:
- Licensed Surveyors carrying out private subdivisions - these requests must be accompanied by the appropriate development approvals.
- Client Services arranging contract surveys on behalf of government agencies.
- Provides advice on survey requirements.
- Undertakes investigations on survey requirements for Aboriginal land claims and Pastoral Lease subdivisions.
- Examines survey plans for compliance with statutory requirements prior to approval by the Surveyor General under the Licensed Surveyors Act.
- Caries out audits on survey plans and provide feedback to Licensed Surveyors.
- Provides advice to surveyors, the public and government agencies on surveying and subdivision processes.
Lodgement of Plans
Plans that require approval by the Office of Surveyor-General must be formally lodged with the Statutory Survey Services.
Official Departmental lodgement and application forms need to accompany the plans and data.

Please note :
- the contents of the Examination Report should comply with the requirements as outlined in the Auditing Process and Accreditation of Examiners Version 4.7 document (PDF 179KB)
- the Department will accept the lodgement of Survey Plan data for approval that is not countersigned by an Accredited Examiner. In such cases the Department will arrange for the plan/data to be examined (checked) internally or by an Accredited Examiner. However, this service will incur an examination fee as prescribed in the Licensed Surveyors Act.
