Legislation administered by Land Information includes:
Licensed Surveyors Act
The Licensed Surveyors Act provides for the registration of land boundary surveyors, the regulation of land boundary surveying and other associated purposes.
The Act also provides for the appointment of the Surveyor-General, a statutory position that has a role in the administration of many other pieces of legislation.
Place Names Act
The Place Names Act provides for the official naming of places in the Northern Territory. A Place Names Committee appointed by the Minister makes recommendations with regard to naming or re-naming of places.
The Act was amended in 2004 to broaden its scope and provide for improved administrative processes.
Valuation of Land Act
The Valuation of Land Act provides for the valuation of land, in particular triennial valuations of land for local government rating purposes. It also provides for the appointment of the Valuer-General, a statutory position that has a role in other pieces of legislation.
Unit Titles Act - Part
The objective of the Unit Titles Act is to facilitate the subdivision of land into units and common property, and for other purposes. The Act is the responsibility of the Department of Justice
However, the pre-registration functions of the Act have been transferred to the Department of Planning and Infrastructure, to enable these functions to be administered on the same basis as other subdivisions prior to issue of land titles.
