Permits to shoot on Crown Land

The Department of Lands and Planning allows members of the public to go recreational shooting and hunting on certain areas of Crown land. A plan showing the area allowed to shoot on, is on the back of the Shooters Permit, and they are the only areas of vacant Crown land, in the whole of the Northern Territory that you are allowed to shoot on. (PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS).

To obtain a permit to shoot on Crown land a person requires a current or expired Shooters Licence OR a current form of photo identification (e.g. drivers licence, passport).  The cost is $18.50 and the application is done over the counter on the Ground Floor Cavenagh House, 38 Cavenagh Street, Darwin or at one of the regional offices in a couple of minutes. EFTPOS facilities are available at the Darwin and Alice Springs Office, however please note that no EFTPOS facilities are available in the Katherine office.

Please note: as of 12 July 2010 permits to shoot on Crown land will no longer be processed on Level 2, Cavenagh House, 38 Cavenagh St Darwin.  All applications will now be processed at the customer service desk on the Ground Floor.

If application is made by mail, original signed application form AND a photocopy of a Shooters Licence (both front and back) or photo identification is required which has been authenticated by a Commissioner of Oaths/Justice of the Peace/Police Officer to verify the applicant’s identification. A cheque or money order for the amount of $18.50 is required to be made out to “RTM”.
