Sale of Crown Land
Policy on the sale or grant of government land
The Department of Planning and Infrastructure is the sole Northern Territory Government agency responsible for the sale of Crown land and real property owned by the Government.
A public competitive process is the usual method for the sale of Crown land for commercial, residential or agricultural purposes. The public competitive process can be:
- auction (most common method);
- expressions of interest (by invitation);
- tender; or
- ballot.
The Northern Territory Government Minister for Planning and Lands may select the most appropriate means for the sale of Crown land after having regard to the particular circumstances.
Notwithstanding the above, the Minister may sell Crown land by direct sale for a commercial development or make a grant to an incorporated community organisation.
