Crown Leases

Leasehold

Leases of Crown land are a form of title whereby a person or party leases land owned by the Crown. There are four common types of leases that can be issued:

Building Leases These leases are tenancy agreements issued over buildings owned by the Crown. They are usually issued as weekly, fortnightly, monthly or quarterly tenancies.

Pastoral Leases

These leases are issued for broadacre areas specifically used for pastoral purposes.

Special Purposes Lease

A Special Purposes Lease is an older form of tenure, historically issued for land outside of town areas or for reserved land. These leases are being phased out and converted to either Crown Leases Perpetual or Freehold titles. This form of lease is the only lease which can be issued over reserved land.

Crown Lease

A Crown Lease Term is a development lease containing conditions and covenants requiring development to be undertaken in accordance with the agreed development plan. Crown leases are convertible to freehold title once development in accordance with the lease has been completed
