New Concept Masterplan For Old Hospital Site
A new concept master plan to develop Darwin’s Old Hospital Site into a public park has been announced following extensive community consultation.
This beautiful tropical park covering 8.7 hectares is in one of the city’s best locations, and commemorates its historical connection to the old hospital, Kahlin Compound and the Larrakia.
A design competition will be held to design the site’s commemorative space.
The park will feature public art, a café, children’s water play area, disabled access, shaded car parks, appropriate lighting, barbecue areas and shelters.
The residential component of the site will be located on the north-eastern corner and will comprise medium density housing and high rise apartments of up to eight storeys.
Physical work on site is set to commence in 2010.
