Kilgariff: Planning for Alice Springs Growth
The Territory Government is currently planning for Kilgariff, the next suburban development in Alice Springs.
This development presents a unique opportunity to plan living spaces for the future with good urban design, public transport links, environmentally sustainable homes and buildings and community spaces that work for people.
The new suburb will be approximately 9 km from the town centre and 4.5 km to the airport. Kilgariff has 180 hectares of developable land and will initially deliver approximately 150 dwellings over the next few years, with ultimate housing capacity for up to 3000 people.
Kilgariff Enquiry by Design Forum Outcomes
The Kilgariff Enquiry by Design Forum was a collaborative design planning event to:
- Bring community and a wide range of technical experts together
- Engage a broad range of stakeholders
- Facilitate integrated team design processes
The final outcomes address issues of transport, infrastructure, location and available facilities, industry and the environment.
During the Enquiry by Design Forum, five different design teams produced designs in response to five different scenarios. Input to the designs was also obtained from community ideas and the input of facilitated group feedback sessions during the Forum.
This booklet has been prepared to firstly document the Forum Outcomes, and secondly to provide a basis for further community discussion on the range of issues and options for the future development of Kilgariff.
