Greening Darwin City

The Territory Government is creating more revitalised green spaces and parklands throughout our capital city for families and visitors to enjoy.  This will create more recreational spaces and interconnected pedestrian and cycle ways, and highlight and protect important cultural and historic areas.

 

Myilly Park

This scenic spot overlooking Mindil Beach and Cullen Bay will be developed into open parkland with recreational facilities such as barbeques, play equipment, shaded areas, exercise stations and landscaped gardens.

This $6 million redevelopment will begin construction next dry season.

Old Darwin Hospital Site

A new park will be built on the Old Hospital Site, providing green space, a café, public art, children’s water play areas, barbeques and shelter.  Construction will commence next dry season.

The history of the Old Darwin Hospital Site will be incorporated into a commemorative space and a residential component will be included on the north-eastern side of the block.

Knuckey Street

The Territory Government is providing $1.5 million to redevelop and beautify Knuckey Street with:

• new street furniture
• new lighting
• new street trees.

Construction will commence later this year in partnership with Darwin City Council.

 

 

 

Smith Street Walkway

This innovative $3.2 million project will create a sheltered walkway that connects the Smith Street Mall to the Waterfront, and through design and public art, will highlight Darwin’s history, culture and environment.

Construction is underway and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
