How to Access Building Files

Owner

Must provide photographic identification to prove they are the registered owner of the property.

In the event that a property is listed in only one name, the registered owner must provide a letter authorising any other person (including family members) to view the file.

Agent or Third Party

The property owner must either

  • provide Building Advisory Services Branch with a letter authorising the agent or third party to view their file, or
  • sign an authority to access building records form.

Company

The company must provide a letter on company letterhead signed by the Director, Manager, Principal etc authorising an individual to view the building file.

If Building Advisory Services Branch do not receive the right documentation, the Branch reserves the right to decline access to any Building File.

What is held on a Building File

  • Drainage Plans
  • Site Plans
  • Floor Plans
  • Building Permits
  • Occupancy Permits
  • Inspection Reports
  • Pest Control Certificates
  • Engineering Certificates

Provide Photocopies to the Public

Building Advisory Services staff can provide photocopies of records held on the building file.

Photocopy charges are:

  • $1.50 per sheet (A3 and A4)
  • $5.00 for A1.

Building files can not be taken off site.

Sale of Documents

Building Advisory Services Branch sells a range of compliance documentation books:

  • Building Inspection record
  • Plumbers and Drainers Certification
  • Section 69 Declaration of Builder
  • Section 40 Certificate of compliance

Contact the Lands Titles Office to purchase a title search on your property, this will provide you with zoning for your parcel of land.
