Requirements for Registration

The requirements for registration in each category (qualifications, experience and insurance) were determined by the Minister on 31 August 2006, and are listed in the attached Summary of Qualifications, Experience and Insurance Criteria.

Net Tangible Assets

As specified on the application form, anyone (company or individual) applying for registration as a building contractor (residential) must provide a certificate from their accountant to demonstrate they have Net Tangible Assets of $50,000. The Notes on financial requirements provide a guide to calculating Net Tangible Assets and a sample Certification form is provided.

Please note that you must provide the ORIGINAL, not a copy.

Sample Project List

At renewal time, you will be asked to provide a list of projects undertaken during the past 2 years. For your assistance, a sample project list can be found here.

Full Company Search

A full company search, also called a company extract, provides information about a company including details of office holders, addresses of the company, details of members of proprietary companies, and can be purchased from an office of the Australian Securities and Investment Commission.  For an office near you, visit the ASIC website. Section 40 Certificate

Once construction is completed, an NT registered building practitioner must issue a Section 40 Certificate to certify that construction has been completed in accordance with the BCA (see Regulation 21).
