Voluntary Applications
Can I voluntarily apply to ban myself from purchasing, possessing or consuming alcohol?
Yes. There are two ways in which you can do this under the legislation.
1. Applying for banning order for yourself – no substance misuse
You can apply to the Alcohol and Drugs Tribunal for a banning order for yourself even if you do not misuse alcohol or another substance.
For example, you may want to apply if you are repeatedly asked (“humbugged”) to buy alcohol for people. If you apply under this process a clinician’s assessment is not required if you are not misusing a substance.
2. Applying for a banning order for yourself – substance misuse
If you misuse alcohol or another substance you can self-refer to the Alcohol and Drugs Tribunal.
The Tribunal will arrange for you to be assessed by a clinician and following this assessment can make orders to ban you and to assist in your treatment and rehabilitation.
If you wish to make an application, please download a form in the forms section and then e-mail, post or fax it to the Alcohol and Drugs Tribunal office.
